Pinery Narrows is the Cuyahoga Valley’s thinnest point, where the river is confined by hard, deeply cut bedrock and follows a narrower, straighter course than in areas where it twists through loose glacial debris. Ohio Route 82 crosses the valley here on the Brecksville-Northfield High-Level Bridge, a reinforced concrete bridge built in 1931 to replace the 1881 wrought iron Station Road Bridge. A railroad station historically stood at this location, and early 1900s views north from here showed the Station Road Bridge, the ripples in the Cuyahoga River from Pinery Dam, and no concrete arches overhead. In 1931, area residents took day trips to admire the Brecksville-Northfield Bridge as it neared completion.
