Birthplace Cottage was the birthplace of Herbert Hoover, who later reflected that it stood as physical proof of the unbounded opportunity of American life, because in no other land, he believed, could a boy from a country village, without inheritance or influential friends, look forward with unbounded hope. President and Mrs. Hoover later purchased and restored the cottage in the 1930s.
