The rake and the mower were implements used in harvesting hay, and mechanized equipment advanced the livestock industry because a man could cut and store more hay than he could by hand. The rake was pulled by a horse or a team of horses, and the mower was pulled by a team. Hay was cut with the mower, then after drying it was raked into piles, hauled, and stored. The mower came from Barclay, Nevada, and was donated by the family of Orilla Woods Hafen, daughter of Elizabeth Terry Woods. Three of the Thomas Sirls Terry children married three of the Lyman Woods children, and their courting was done by riding twenty miles over the Panaca Summit to Barclay, Nevada.
