Cherokee Arboretum at Audubon Acres is a 130-acre arboretum and natural area in Chattanooga’s East Brainerd neighborhood, protected as one of several Chattanooga Audubon Society properties and officially established as an arboretum in 2003. Its roughly mile-long main walking trail presents the forest through Native American culture. Trees and other woody plants are identified by scientific, common, and Cherokee names, with Cherokee written in the Cherokee syllabary. Information along the trail also highlights traditional Cherokee uses of the plants, making the site significant as both a preserved natural landscape and a place connecting regional ecology with Cherokee language and knowledge.
