This road, then part of the Anderson Turnpike, was used by Federal wagon trains between the base at Bridgeport, Alabama, and the besieged army in Chattanooga. West of here, Major General Joseph Wheeler, raiding northwestward with his cavalry, intercepted a train, estimated at between 800 and 1000 wagons, burned it, and captured a number of mules.
