Banks Dairy Farm operated on this site with 900 acres of cultivated land and dairying operations. David Callaway Banks, born April 8, 1882, in Bulloch County, Georgia, founded Banks Dairy Farm and The City Dairy Company. He married Sarah Juliann Brannen in 1906 and in 1908 purchased the first part of what became Banks Dairy Farm. In 1932, he bought an adjoining farm from his father-in-law, James Gross Brannen, greatly expanding the property. The farm centered on dairy operations, with most of its milk going to the family-owned City Dairy Company, and it also produced livestock, wheat, cotton, tobacco, peanuts, watermelon, and corn. The children of D. C. and Annie Banks each performed specific jobs on the farm under D. C.'s overall supervision: Osborne oversaw the plant in town, Lonnie handled milking, Edwin managed feed crops, and Henry handled milk, while the other children were Nina, Grace, Martha Ann, and Bernard. The farm's dairying operations ended in 1982 with its sale to Coble Dairy.
