Francis Cowles of Company A, 21st Regiment C.V., wounded at Cold Harbor on June 3 and died at Cambell Hospital, Washington, D.C., on August 5, 1864, aged 37; Evelyn H. Olmstead of Company A, 21st Regiment C.V., who died at Washington, D.C., on December 4, 1862, aged 22; Edmund M.B. Roberts of 1st Connecticut Light Battery, who died at Beauford, South Carolina, on June 24, 1862, aged 22; and Samuel A. Their memory was honored with the inscriptions "We Mourn the Patriot Dead," "All Honor to the Brave," and "The Union It Must and Shall be Preserved," and with the battle names Antietam, Port Hudson, Petersburg, Drurys Bluff, Kingston, Sharpsburg, Cold Harbor, and Andersonville.
