Adolphus Staton, a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy born on 28 August 1879 in Tarboro, N.C., received the Medal of Honor for distinguished conduct in battle at Vera Cruz, Mexico, on 22 April 1914. In the engagement at Vera Cruz, he was eminent and conspicuous in command of his battalion, and he exhibited courage and skill in leading his men through the action of the 22d and in the final occupation of the city.
