Snow Peak, also called Cleveland Rock, is a summit in the Oregon Cascades within the Willamette National Forest and an extinct shield volcano in the Western Cascades that last erupted about 3 million years ago. Reached only by primitive road access, it remained undeveloped even as its summit served as a fire lookout site in the twentieth century. A telephone line arrived in 1912, a lookout house was built in 1923, and the station was rebuilt or enlarged in 1929. After a 1948 fire, damage from the Columbus Day Storm in 1962, and years of neglect and vandalism, the final lookout structure was dismantled in 1980.
