A rare Yellow Billed Loon was discovered on December 14, 1986, on the Rock River between the two dams by members of the White Pines Bird Club. The rarest of the loons, it breeds in the extreme northern sections of the Arctic Circle. On December 24, the loon went downstream below the lower dam, where hundreds of people from all over the United States came to see it.
