Sunset Beach State Recreation Site is an Oregon state park on the Pacific coast, occupying 120 acres on the Clatsop Plains as an open beach park shaped by a broad oceanfront setting. Managed as part of Oregon’s public coastal park system, it is valued for public access to the shoreline and as part of a wider coastal landscape that includes other protected and historic areas. In February 2024, the site drew attention when an endangered male fin whale, 46 feet long, washed ashore underweight and entangled in rope. It was reported as only the second fin whale recorded washing up in Oregon in 30 years.
