Originally built in 1762, Mill Grove later became the first home in America of John James Audubon, the noted artist, naturalist, and author. Here he began his studies of American birds and wildlife, which he portrayed vividly in his numerous realistic paintings. The site is now owned and operated by the County of Montgomery. Purchased in 1951 by the Montgomery County Commissioners, Mill Grove has been designated a National Historic Landmark and possesses national significance in commemorating the history of the United States of America.
