Faribault was associated with several notable figures. Marlon Brando, a legendary American actor who starred in many films, studied at Shattuck-St. Mary's School. Red Jackson, a stunt pilot, broke the aerial endurance record by flying more than 420 hours nonstop in 1929 and was inducted into the Minnesota Aviator Hall of Fame. Bruce Smith, Minnesota's only Heisman Trophy winner in 1941, was a star running back on the national champion University of Minnesota teams of 1940-41, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, served as a fighter pilot in World War II after college, and became a professional football player in the N.F.L.
