Before 1927, Karl and Charlotte Edwards ran a grocery store from this site. In 1927, Sam and Susie Keach moved their restaurant, originally known as the Legion Square Restaurant, to this site and changed the name to Legion Restaurant. Lawrence and Theresa Moren took over operation of the restaurant in 1967. In the 1970s, Ray Hamel Sr. purchased the business and changed the name to the Wilderness Restaurant, and in 1975 the south side of the building became the Cedar Lounge. In 1980, Raymond Hamel Sr. sold the business to his son, Raymond Hamel Jr., the current owner. The restaurant has served breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the past 93 years, and the area where the lounge is today was a bowling alley from 1935 to 1944.
