Steatite Boulder
History
1
A steatite boulder found at the site of a prehistoric quarry along Soapstone Ridge 8 miles south of Decatur shows how Indians made stone bowls, including the first girdling of the stone to remove workable cores. Archaeologists studying such remains in central and north Georgia estimate it to be at least 3000 years old. The soapstone quarry on River Road in DeKalb County is the largest found by archaeologists in Georgia.
