In Lexington, Missouri, this preserved battlefield marks the site of the 1861 Battle of Lexington, an early Civil War engagement in Missouri. The historic property protects surviving ground and landscape associated with the fighting between Confederate forces led by Major-General Sterling Price and federal troops commanded by Colonel James A. Mulligan. Established in 1958, it preserves the place because of that battle’s importance and now serves as a public historic site. Along with the battleground itself, the property includes a short battlefield loop trail, picnicking, and tours that also visit the Oliver Anderson mansion, connecting the battle’s open ground with a notable historic structure.
