Constitution Square in Danville, Kentucky, stands on the ground where key steps toward Kentucky statehood took place. Established in the 1780s near John Crow’s Station, the square became the seat of the District of Kentucky court in 1785, and its courthouse hosted ten constitutional conventions between 1785 and 1792 that led to separation from Virginia. The site also preserves the original post office building, built before 1792 and recognized as the first U.S. post office west of the Allegheny Mountains. Later used for religious, educational, and wartime purposes, the square was transformed in the 20th century into a historic site that remains a museum and public gathering place.
