In 1805, Nehemiah Wood and his family came to the Farm with 100 freed slaves, and this cabin was one of those built to house them. Uncle Albert Hurt first lived in the cabin near a sweet spring on Granny's Branch Fork. At one time a man named Thompson raised 9 girls in this home. Rio Grande College students often lived in the house, with the last doing so in 1952. Two of the cabin's doors led to lean-to rooms, one of which was usually the kitchen.
