Seven North Carolina Militia officers—Captains Falls, Sloan, Knox, Smith, Bowman, Armstrong, and Dobson—were killed in the Battle of Ramsour's Mill on June 20, 1780. Some were returned to their homes for burial, while others, including Captain Dobson, were interred here. Later, Dobson's daughter Anne and her husband Wallace Alexander, who survived the battle, were also buried here. The tomb was rebuilt and the brick wall erected in 1954 by members of the Jacob Forney Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
