Ocmulgee Mounds is a prehistoric American Indian site where American Indians first came during the Paleo-Indian period to hunt Ice Age mammals. Many different American Indian cultures occupied this land for thousands of years. Around 900 CE, the Mississippian Period began, and they constructed mounds for their elite that remain today.
