Angels Landing is a prominent rock formation above Zion Canyon in Zion National Park, reached by one of the park’s most famous and demanding summit hikes. The trail, cut into solid rock in 1926, climbs from the Virgin River along the West Rim Trail, passes Walter’s Wiggles and Scout Lookout, and ends on a narrow ridge with steep drop-offs and fixed chains leading to the summit. Long known for its exposure, difficulty, crowding, and safety concerns, the route’s final section was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, and permits have been required beyond Scout Lookout since 2022.
