The Mattocks Ruin is a large Mimbres archaeological site in southwest New Mexico with pithouses and a pueblo dating back more than 1,000 years. It was once home to the Mimbres people, Native Americans who left behind extraordinary black and white pottery used in everyday life. Preserved as the Mimbres Culture Heritage Site under the stewardship of the Silver City Museum Society, it is one of many cultural heritage sites in the region. Its pottery fragments, stones, and other remains provide important clues to the past, and for more than 10 centuries families lived, worked, played, and died here.
