Foxfire Botanical Gardens, also known as Foxfire Gardens, was a 15-acre site near Marshfield, Wisconsin, where seven acres were developed as display landscapes blending Eastern and Western traditions. Founded in 1983, it presented itself as the first philosophical gardens of its kind, pairing horticultural display with a broader philosophical concept. Its cultivated areas ranged from European topiary to Japanese so and gyo gardens, placing contrasting design traditions side by side. In 2003, Wisconsin granted it official botanical garden status after it met requirements for display gardens and community programs. The gardens closed in 2009, but the site remains a notable and unusual project in central Wisconsin.
