The town of Bowman and American Legion Post No. 64 erected the Bowman War Memorial in honor of local service members who died in World War II and the Vietnam War. Those named from World War II are James Edmund Berry, killed at Okinawa on May 17, 1945; Thomas Richard Edwards, in the European Theater on March 25, 1945; Leonard Everett Berry, in the European Theater on December 25, 1944; George Arthur Kemmerlin, in Italy on September 23, 1944; and Benjamin Franklin Knight, in the Pacific Theater on September 12, 1943. Those named from the Vietnam War are James Allen Johnson, in Vietnam on July 1, 1969; Henry Dennis West, III, aboard the U.S.S. Evans in the South China Sea on June 2, 1969; and Jessie Clarence Felder, in Vietnam on June 29, 1966.
