Lake Corpus Christi State Park, a 356-acre Texas state park on the shore of Lake Corpus Christi southwest of Mathis, opened in 1934 on land leased from the City of Corpus Christi. Its early development was largely shaped by Civilian Conservation Corps Company 886, which built much of the park in 1934 and 1935, though only the refectory survives among several original buildings. Other CCC-era features include a lookout tower, Park Road 25, and bridges. The park also preserves a varied ecological setting of brushlands, wetlands, woodlands, and open water, supporting notable birdlife, mammals, and popular fishing, while retaining links to its New Deal-era origins.
