Bugg Spring
Nature
1
Bugg Spring is a large second-magnitude spring near Okahumpka in central Florida, with a broad pool about 400 feet across and a reported depth of 170 to 175 feet. Its water flows north through Bugg Spring Run into Helena Run from Lake Denham and then to Lake Harris. Set amid swampland with sandhills to the south, the area was once the site of a Native Seminole village before the Civil War. Afterward it became the home of Confederate colonel J. J. Dickison, then passed to the Branham family in 1923. The U.S. Navy began leasing part of the land in 1956, bought all of it in 2011, and the spring is now closed to the public within a naval facility.
