Lyndon B. Johnson National Grassland is a protected section of the Great Plains in north Texas near Decatur, about an hour from Fort Worth. Covering 20,309 acres, it is one of Texas’s two national grasslands and is named for former president Lyndon B. Johnson. The land serves both as a recreational destination and a working landscape, including livestock grazing. Visitors use the area for hiking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting, with generally free camping offered at both pull-through and hike-in sites. Most of the grassland is in northern Wise County, with a smaller portion extending into southern Montague County.
