Helena Sexauer, known affectionately as “The Tree Lady,” worked for the beautification of her community and the improvement of the environment. During the 1970's she was responsible for saving and relocating many trees threatened by development. The trees were moved to municipal, school, and church sites throughout the area, including this native red maple, "Acer rubrum," and others on the Oakland County Service Center. Funding for these efforts often came from a recycling center she operated in Bloomfield Township. She also worked with MDOT to include landscaping as part of the reconstruction of Telegraph Road.
