Cullen House is a Greek colonial home with pediments and Doric columns, a garret ballroom that runs the length of the house and has opening fan-shaped windows, a long, wide center hall, five fireplaces with a crane in the kitchen chimney, and wide-board floors and walls of virgin pine wood. It was built in 1839 by Ezekiel Wimberly Cullen, a settler from Georgia, a soldier of the Texas Revolution, and a member of the 3rd Congress of the Republic. A friend of President Lamar, he wrote the bill to fund schools, including the state university, with public lands.
