On May 25, 1937, a gun battle took place here with the infamous Brady Gang after a bank robbery in Goodland. Trooper Paul Vincent Minneman, who lived from 1904 to 1937, died from his wounds and became the first trooper killed by criminals' bullets since the Indiana State Police was formed in 1933.
