On the Grand Prairie, soil built up over centuries from silt carried down by the Mississippi and Arkansas Rivers became a crossroads where many peoples passed and others settled, their paths crossing at the Post of Arkansas. Indians, Europeans, and Americans all walked here, including explorers and soldiers, priests and outlaws, traders and trappers, who came either as travelers or as new colonists seeking new homes and lives.
