Norseland Lutheran Church was organized in 1858 at the home of Johannes Johnson Odegaard, located 1 mile east and then ¾ mile south in Lake Prairie Township section 29. On June 6, 1858, 31 pioneer families of Norwegian descent met at the Odegaard home to worship with their first pastor, Rev. Laurentius Larsen. These immigrants had originally come from Hallingdahl, Saetersdalen, Gulbrandsdalen, Voss Nordalen, Sogn, Bergen, Totten, and Tromsöe in Norway. In 1866, with membership at 72, the first church was built at the summit of this cemetery. The present church was dedicated in 1911, and the parsonage in 1907.
