The optic display on the Egmont Key Light was a Double Head DCB-36 Rotating Beacon manufactured by Crouse-Hinds of Syracuse, New York. It was installed in 1944 after the lantern room and Fresnel Lens were removed from the lighthouse tower. In September 1989, the current DCB-24 rotating beacon replaced it. The lighthouse is now fully automated, and the U.S. Coast Guard no longer needs to tend the light daily. The Coast Guard crew that once cared for the light and grounds was transferred off the island. The U.S. Coast Guard retains ownership and maintenance of the lighthouse, while the Florida Park Service now manages the key as a state park.
