Organized in 1883 by 13 charter members as Carmichael Chapel of Elba Circuit, the congregation first worshipped in a brush arbor on the northwest corner of North Main and Lee Streets. Its first two sanctuaries, built in 1883 and 1893, both stood on North Main Street. The present church on South Main, built in 1903-4, is one of the oldest structures in Enterprise and is a good example of the High Victorian Gothic style popular in church architecture around the turn of the century.
