The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco объединяет the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park as the city’s largest public arts institution. Together they hold about 130,000 objects and drew 1,158,264 visitors in 2022, making them among the most visited art museums in the United States. The de Young grew from the 1894 California Midwinter International Exposition and now occupies a building that opened in 2005, while the Legion of Honor was inspired by the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition and opened in 1924. Brought under shared leadership in 1931 and formally merged in 1972, the two museums form a leading West Coast museum organization.
