Mount Pisgah is a 2,090-foot mountain on the northern edge of Saranac Lake in Essex County, New York, one of three small peaks framing the village. Privately owned, it brings together homes on its south side, communications towers on its summit, and a village ski area on its north side, making it both a local recreation site and a prominent landmark. Its biblical name was adopted after the 1890s, when it was known as Jenkins Hill. The mountain also holds a place in literary history: in 1952 Sylvia Plath broke her leg skiing there, and later transformed the accident into fiction in The Bell Jar.
