The Strand Theater, originally The Star, was built in 1914 by Joseph Sapienza for silent films, vaudeville-style live shows, and a fruit market. In 1939, it was renovated, the marquee was added, and the fruit market was moved across the street. In the mid-1980s, it was left vacant and in decay. In 2002, the Strand Theatre initiative purchased it, and in 2009 reopened it as a center for the arts. Debbie Reynolds capped off a week-long celebration with four concerts in July.
