The barn was an integral part of the brewery, providing shelter for livestock and housing wagons used to build the brewery and deliver beer. In December 1903, the Chippewa Times wrote that possessing one horse and a democrat wagon, John Miller could be seen on the streets every day hauling lumber from the mill to build the brewery. During their first year, Jacob and John produced and delivered 400 barrels with a one-horse shay, and this horse was fondly known as Kate. Kate's cargo was welcomed by the thirsty, hardworking citizens of Chippewa Falls.
