Clyde E. Lassen, a Commander in the U.S. Navy who lived from 1942 to 1994, received the Navy Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as pilot and aircraft commander of a search and rescue helicopter operation against enemy forces in North Vietnam. He was officially awarded the Medal of Honor on 16 January 1969. Lassen was a 1960 graduate of Venice High School.
