This obelisk, like its companion on Henry Hill, was constructed by Union soldiers at the close of the Civil War to honor the Federal dead of the Second Battle of Manassas, and it was dedicated on June 11, 1865; souvenir hunters later stripped it of the field artillery shells that originally adorned it.
