Masonic Lodge Building of 1887
History
1
Constructed in 1887 by N. P. McKee and the Hancock Masonic Lodge, this building was designed by Geo. W. Payne, a nationally renowned architect, with a large arched window and pyramid-shaped roof. In 1924, Mississippi Valley Telephone purchased the building, and that year a 3-alarm fire destroyed most of its interior, roof, and arched window. The telephone company rebuilt the structure as it stands today, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
