Dr. Robert Guthrie Jarrell, Jr., born in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana, on December 12, 1928, and raised in Epps, Louisiana, where his parents owned the pharmacy, became a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology and delivered literally thousands of present citizens of northeast Louisiana and elsewhere. He served as chief of staff of St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana, was an ardent supporter of Louisiana Tech University who donated many thousands of dollars to the athletic department, and was instrumental in actuating a groundswell of activity and development and gaining national recognition that led Poverty Point to become the UNESCO Poverty Point World Heritage Site.
