About the year 1800, Tyger Baptist Church was established as the first church in this area of South Carolina near the head of the Tyger River. An original stone from one of the four pillars of its first building is associated with these words of praise: “I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart,” “Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: Talk ye of all his wondrous works,” and “Rejoice evermore.”
