Robert Halbert was born June 11, 1891, in Ft. McKavett, Tex., and died Sept. 16, 1983. Battie Halbert was born Dec. 14, 1894, in Florence, Tex., and died Nov. 26, 1991. They met while attending Howard Payne college and married July 12, 1912. Their two surviving daughters were Allie (Mrs. Vestel Askew) and Bobbie (Mrs. Lee Fawcett), both of whom continued their local ranching heritage. Robert was a noted sheepsman and was known worldwide as a premier breeder of polled Hereford cattle. He served as president of Texas and national polled associations, exhibited cattle nationwide, and produced many champions. Halbert Herefords were sold to several foreign countries. His priorities were family, friends, community, the Sonora Methodist Church, and his livestock.
