Fort Amanda was enlarged again by the Ohio militia under Captain Daniel Hosbrook. The finished fort measured 198 feet by 330 feet and covered an area of approximately 1.5 acres. The original portion included four blockhouses. The backs of cabins on the side parallel to the river may have served as the stockade's walls, as did those on the northwest end. Hosbrook extended the walls and constructed a smoke-house and a fifth blockhouse. Corrals and a slaughterhouse were located southwest of the fort. There is some evidence that the site of the fort may actually have been 130 feet to the north. Early settlers wrote that the well was in the "center of the fort," placing it outside the walls of Pogue's original fort. Non-invasive archaeological research produced inconclusive results. Further archaeological investigation is needed to verify the exact location of the fort.
