Built in 1920 as the new home of the Brenham Banner Publishing Company, this two-story building was designed by architect M.M. Gin and constructed by contractor Alex Griffin for continuous use in news and entertainment media. Its basement was heavily reinforced with concrete to support large printing presses and other equipment, and the building cost $40,000.00, not including the site valued at $8.000.00. For a number of years, the second story was rented as apartments or offices, while the first floor housed not only the newspaper and printing business but also a stationery and office supply department. Tom S. Whitehead, Sr. purchased the building and newspaper in 1937, founded KWHI radio station in 1947, and later moved its studios to the second floor. He sold the newspaper in 1962, after which it moved elsewhere, and in 1971 he and his son, Tom S. Whitehead, Jr., founded TV Cable of Brenham in the building until it was sold to Northland Cable and moved next door. Today the entire building is occupied by KWHI-AM and KTTX-FM, owned by the Whitehead family.
