The St. Marys–Wapakoneta plank road was built from 1850 to 1852 of Burr and White Oak timber 3 to 5 ft in diameter, cut and milled at Moulton. It was financed by Wapakoneta–St. Marys businessmen, who charged tolls for profit and maintenance. In 1882 it was replaced by a gravel pike. Tolls were 15 cents for a 1 horse 4 wheel cart, 3 cents for each horse or mule, 20 cents for a 2 horse 4 wheel wagon, 1 cent each for cattle, 5 cents for a 1 horse sled, one-half cent each for sheep, 10 cents for a 2 horse sled, and 30 cents for a stage coach with 2 horses.
