Abraham Lincoln made his only speech in Warren County, Indiana, near this spot on Feb. 11, 1861. He told the assembled gentlemen of Indiana that he was happy to meet them on that occasion and to enter again the state of his early life and almost of maturity. He said he was under many obligations to them for their kind reception and to Indiana for the aid she had rendered their cause, which he thought a just one. He added that he would address them at greater length at Indianapolis, though not much greater, and again thanked them for their warm-hearted reception.
