Springbrook State Park, about five miles west of Yale along the Middle Raccoon River, is one of Iowa’s earliest state parks, designated in 1926. Centered on a 17-acre spring-fed lake on Kings Creek, it combines wooded hills, open clearings, sandstone outcrops, and broad recreational use. Many of its facilities were built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and those works are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park is known for hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, swimming, wildlife viewing, and cycling connections. In 2013, a large sinkhole under the entrance road forced an evacuation and drew statewide attention.
