Prophetstown State Park in Indiana stands near the site of Prophetstown, the Shawnee settlement founded in 1808 by Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa that grew into a major multi-tribal center of Native resistance in the Old Northwest. Closely connected to Tecumseh's War and the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe, the area preserves a landscape linked to the destruction of that community and to a consequential conflict between Native confederate forces and the United States. The modern park blends recreation with history through a reconstructed Shawnee village, a 1920s farmstead, and other amenities. Proposed in 1989 and formally dedicated in 2004, it now attracts about 335,000 visitors each year.
